Executive Director - Special Olympics Delaware

David Halley

Special Olympics Delaware recently named David Halley as Executive Director, following a national search led by Dunleavy & Associates. Special Olympics Delaware is a nonprofit whose mission is to provide year‐round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic‐type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

David is a long time Delaware resident and was most recently the Executive Director of the Middletown Family YMCA. He is a caring individual, mission minded, and has shown a passion for serving families in Delaware.

David has worked for the YMCA of Delaware for the past 19 years and has worked at the Bear-Glasgow YMCA, Western YMCA, Dover YMCA, and Middletown YMCA.  Over the course of his career, he has recruited over 30 board members, worked with local legislative officials, raised millions of dollars for capital and annual support, and has built strong volunteer and staff teams.

David earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Delaware in 2002 and shortly after married his wife, Laura, who he met there.  David and Laura have 4 children together. He is excited to be returning to the Newark area and serving at Special Olympics.

In his spare time, David volunteers at his church, coordinates a pick-up basketball program, enjoys exercising, playing board games, and watching the Philadelphia Eagles.
