THE ORGANIZATION

The New Jersey Association of Community Providers (NJACP) represents a vibrant community of diverse providers committed to advancing sustainable, community-based services and supports. Its mission is to enrich lives and build futures for individuals with intellectual, developmental, and other disabilities across New Jersey.

For over twenty-five years, NJACP has assisted member agencies in delivering quality support and services. With more than 80 members, NJACP continues to champion the rights and needs of individuals with developmental disabilities, representing industry and member interests to government affiliates and legislators, fostering collaboration among members, influencing public policy, promoting ethical operating standards, and providing education and training programs that enhance service quality statewide.

THE POSITION

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer CEO) serves as chief staff executive, recommends, and participates in the formulation of policies and makes decisions within existing policies as they have been approved by the Board of Directors. Acting as the primary spokesperson for the organization, the CEO is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the activities of staff, programs, and events. The CEO is responsible for strategic leadership, advocacy, financial management, and enhancing member and stakeholder engagement to ensure the organization’s mission is achieved.

Responsibilities also include maintaining effective internal and external relationships, achieving economical, productive performance, forward-looking programming and constructive growth of the organization.

The CEO has full authority and responsibility for managing the Association, its headquarters, and all programs within the established guidelines. Is responsible for all administrative and program responsibilities outlined below as well as all other duties required.

The CEO has four direct reports: Director, Government Affairs and Communications; Director, Administration and Events; Director of DSP Career Program and Office Manager.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Vision

  1. Develop and articulate a strategic vision for the organization in collaboration with the Board of Directors with input from the membership.

  2. Serve as the liaison between the Board of Directors and staff.

  3. Inspire and align staff and members around the organization’s mission and strategic goals.

  4. Serve as the primary spokesperson and ambassador for the organization.

Organizational Management

  1. Oversee day-to-day operations.

  2. Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems.

  3. Annually, with the support of the Finance Committee, develop a budget to be approved by the Board of Directors. The budget will support the operations of the organization and achieve the strategic and operational goals,

  4. Recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals; oversee implementation of the strategic plan.

  5. Develop appropriate staffing plan to meet the current and ongoing needs of the organization and its members, and lead the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of staff members as needed.

  6. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture.

  7. Ensure effective systems to track progress and regularly evaluate program components, to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the Board, members and other constituents.

  8. Oversee planning and delivery of events including the Annual Conference and recognition awards

Membership Engagement

  1. Ensure the delivery of high-quality programs, services, and resources to support members in their professional growth.

  2. Collaborate with Board to drive membership recruitment, engagement, and retention strategies.

  3. Actively engage and energize Board members, committees, and overall membership.

  4. Deepen and refine all aspects of member communications to create a stronger community.

  5. Provide a high level of responsiveness to member concerns or challenges and provide excellent customer service to the membership.

Financial Oversight

  1. Develop and manage NJACP’s annual budget in partnership with the Board of Directors.

  2. Ensure fiscal responsibility and accountability throughout organization in accordance with fiscal policies established by the Board and complying with external fiscal controls such as generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

  3. Identify and pursue opportunities to diversify revenue streams, including partnerships, sponsorships, and grants.

  4. Ensure the filing of all legal and regulatory documents and monitor compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

  5. Review and approve contracts for services.

Government Affair, Advocacy, and Public Policy

  1. Provide direct oversight for organization’s government affairs and communications.

  2. Build and maintain the organization’s public image and reputation.

  3. Keep abreast and monitor legislative and regulatory updates and resources for members.

  4. Respond to and support members’ concerns and needs for advocacy and connection to broader membership for support.

  5. In conjunction with the Board and Legislative and Policy Committee, establish an advocacy strategy and organizational position for legislative and regulatory changes that impact the industry.

Direct Support for Professionals Program

  1. Oversee Direct Support Professionals Career Development Program (DSPCDP) focused on recruiting and training individuals, for careers as Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), as well as providing best-in-class training for those already working in the field.

Governance and Board Relations

  1. Collaborate with the Board of Directors to set strategic priorities and ensure effective governance.

  2. Provide regular updates on organizational performance, challenges, and opportunities, including progress toward strategic and organizational objectives and priorities.

  3. Collaborate actively to support the Board in fulfilling its fiduciary and governance responsibilities.

  4. Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience with trade associations or membership organizations in preferred.

  • Demonstrated understanding of legislative and regulatory processes, advocacy strategies, and engagement of governmental and policy making stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and operationalize strategies to substantially enhance organizational growth.

  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation.

  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage and develop high-performance teams, and establish and achieve strategic objectives.

  • Demonstrated financial acumen and experience with budgeting, revenue diversification, and financial management of substantial organizations.

  • Successful experience working with a board of directors and the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships and trust.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator.

  • Excellent multidisciplinary project management skills.

  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning.

  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.

EDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum 10 years of management, association and/or industry experience.

COMPENSATION

This is a full-time, hybrid-remote exempt position. The NJACP office is located at 140 Scotch Road, Ewing Township, NJ 08628.

Starting Salary Range: The starting salary range for the position is $200,000 to $250,000 depending on experience. Benefits include reimbursement of 100% of the monthly family health insurance premium cost twenty-five (25) vacation days, twelve (12) sick days, and two (2) personal days. Any unused vacation, sick, or personal days shall be paid out to CEO within 30 days of the end of the calendar year.
